PA Job Descriptions

This section provides an assortment of physician assistant documents from our files. We provide them as information only: they should be changed to fit your particular situation and employer. It is in your best interests to have employment documents reviewed by an attorney to protect your own interests. (For example, there are items in this collection that some would argue should not be in a job description, but rather in the employment contract.)

We will post your job description (without using your name or employer) for others to review. See submissions for instructions.

Note that there are different conventions for spelling: physician assistant, verses physician's assistant. The first is current usage, while the second is seen as diminitive - the 's denotes possession. However, physician's assistant was the most common usage in the profession's early days, and so can be found in state laws and old institutional documents.

Sample Emergency Department Physician Assistant Job Description
--linked to on the ACEP web site

This document, on the ACEP web site, lists a sample ED PA job description. Physician Assistant duties, responsibilities and privileges are state and institution specific. The job description listed is an example which ACEP has opted to place online as a conservative sample. The job description of PAs in other work locations may be more slightly more restrictive or far more liberal.
