"The Internet Stroke Center is a service of the Stroke Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University Medical Center and the Cerebrovascular Diseases Section of the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine. This is a nonprofit, educational service." Includes a locator for Stroke Centers, Information for Patients and Families, and a very good section for Professionals. This section includes links to Clinical Guidelines and Consensus Statements, Stroke Organizations and Professional Societies, Basic Stroke Science (amazing web links in anatomy, pathology, pathophysiology, and epidemiology), Diagnosis, and Management, Prevention, and Recovery.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS, NIH). "The nation's leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and nervous system." This site provides very comprehensive and timely information. Major sections at the time of this review include include Studies Seek Patients (Hundreds listed, from Adrenoleukodystrophy to Zellweger Syndrome), Funding Opportunities from NINDS (Both Request for Applications and Program Announcements), and a very nice list of Patient Resources, Foundations, and Support Organizations. This list includes a Patient Assistance Section that is also well done. 11/26/01, jk

National Stroke Association A division of the American Heart Association. The web site is a very comprehensive collection of stroke information. Includes both patient and professional articles and videos/webcasts. Some sections at the time of this review: All About Stroke, Survivor & Caregiver Resources, Clinical Trials, Prevention, Public Policy, Professional Pages, Publications, and Stroke Center Network. 11/26/01, jk
