The U.S. Army places PAs in the Army Medical Department (AMEDD). Within this Department, PAs are Commissioned in the Army Medical Specialist Corps. The AMSC is further abbreviated for one's signature block to "SP." The AMSC is also populated by physical therapists, occupational therapists and dietitians.
The AMSC is one of
six
Corps. The others are the
Dental Corps, DC
(dentists), general denistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics,
periodontics and orthodontics.
Medical Corps, MC
(all physicians),
Medical Service Corps, MSC,
Behavioral Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Optometry, Pharmacy, Podiatry,
Preventive Medicine Sciences (Nuclear Medical Science Officer, Entomologist,
Audiologist, Environmental Science Officer and Sanitary Engineer),
and Research with any of these Specialties.
